8Asians.com: End of the Bubble Tea Era: Asians Look Beyond Boba

  • YvesPaul · 1 year ago
Thanks for the post. Love to hear about new food trends.

But I don't think it necessarily needs to be the end of Boba. Why not have a place that sells everything that you just mentioned. I know if such a place exists, I'll be there.

    I vote for shaved ice!

I agree, Sharon. I don't go get boba tea anymore. I find myself going for some "fro-yo" much more often these days. I think people love the refreshing taste with the added health benefits. I do also enjoy going for some shaved ice with fresh mango or strawberries in Chinatown. I would love to see more crepe places in Houston.

@yvespaul: Banana Crepes in San Jose Japantown is said to have crepes, shaved ice, and boba tea. Never ate there myself - I usually eat next door at Kazoo.

@Sharon - crepes don't seem so new to me - I seem to recall that they have been around for a number of years already.

I never liked "Boba" tea very much. Maybe because "Boba" in Tagalog roughly translates to "idiot".

One of my favorite Asian dessert hangouts is "Hello Desserts". You can see http://www.hellodesserts.com/ for their menu.

    Fro-yo all the way....

Since my first fro-yo in Seoul (Red Mango) a couple of years ago, I became a big fan of this sweet tart thing. I make a "pilgrimage" to fro-yo stores in town. Piccomolo, Swirls, BerryPop, Flavors....you name it! Whomever I take with me falls in love with this refreshing dessert as well.

Can't wait to have the OrangeCup in H-town.

Random tidbit: Red Mango, the original frozen yogurt in Korea...founded by Expat Korean-Americans living in Korea, not Koreans.

I would personally prefer single locations that specialize and do each item very well, as opposed to a one stop dining place with all of the above and more done mediocre.

There are a lot of different kinds of Asian snack/dessert/treats type places that have free wi-fi, board games, and more. In fact, some places are so chill, I see people bringing in their own Hookah..!

I'm a big fan of any frozen yogurt place, with a few rare exceptions, but on the Pinkberry/Red Mango front, I'm totally on team Red Mango!
