    i went to the "motherland" when i was 8--and it was shocking, traumatic, eye opening & life changing all at the same time.

    i've gone back since and although still an outsider--enjoy knowing a little about where my parents came from.

    Great that you are taking your daughter. She will remember bits and pieces and you will have planted the seed of connecting her to your collective roots. This will also be the first time for you to see your family and Taiwan through your daughter's eyes. A whole new perspective for you too. Have a great trip!

    Great post. It's wonderful that you are bringing your daughter. I regret not bringing my kids to Asia. As I mention here, a lot of kids go back and forth between the US and Asia fairly often and easily. My nephew goes back to almost every year, which surprised me I remember him only visiting the Philippines only once.
