John, you don't need to do all that. I just think Asians don't need to waste time and bandwidth trumpeting a movie that follows the same lame formula that most movies involving AF leads do. It's not like somebody just split the atom.

At any rate, while I do believe the movie was put together for good intentions, I am wary of yet another movie that just portrays the image of an Asian woman with a white male. It may not be stereotypical but I honestly believe that if Asian women create these types of movies with the support of Asian Americans, we might be sending the wrong message to Hollywood that we as a community enjoy seeing these pairings constantly.

It's almost like a slight justification to ignore Asian men.

I'm going to have to pass on this.

I have no idea what YT stands for, but I imagine AF is an abbreviation for Asian Female. An audience member did ask the writer, director, producer, actress Fay Ann Lee how she got the idea for the movie and why the protagonist male was Caucasian.

Lee went on to explain that 1. she wanted to write a movie for herself to star in since there are so few roles for Asian American woman (and even less for Asian American men) 2. Her Caucasian character was based on John F. Kennedy Jr (the Caucasian male is a lawyer / prosecutor). Lee explained that living in NYC for a while, she actually saw JFK Jr. quite a bit in the streets of New York and saw how people, especially women, gazed upon him. She also wanted to explore the social class differences, and that is another reason why she had 3. Lee is aiming for a MAINSTREAM (i.e. caucasian) audience and distribution, and thus a mixed cast of caucasians and asians.

I am normally sensitive to the stereotypical Asian Female falls for Caucasian Male plot line and in general very skeptical of most plotlines where people fall in love over a span of a few movie weeks. Those weaknesses aside, I still think the movie is well made and entertaining and would recommend it, especially over other trash that is currently playing in theaters today.
